Bridge End Cottage

Back lawn, pond and dead oak tree

Beyond the more formal part of the garden around the house there are two converging streams and a rough, large lawn with a pond in the centre. It features on many old maps and was probably created by digging for clay for bricks or flint for building. It drains off the neighbouring fields and is it is the lowest lying point for many miles around. There’s a duck house on it, more often occupied by moorhens than ducks but many broods of ducklings have been raised over the years, in different parts of this garden.
The pond is about 4 ft deep but in recent  summers it has dried out completely. However when full it provides a nice swimming pool for the resident working cocker spaniel to cool off in.

Angelica thrives on the banks of the streams and looks magnificent in May

A prominent feature opposite the house is a large dead oak tree, now smothered in ‘Filipes Kifsgate’.
